Venues - Aberdour Castle, Fife
"Aberdour Castle and Gardens is situated in a spectacular setting, overlooking the Forth Estuary and surrounded by a traditional 17th century walled garden and terrace. Long Gallery. The main room in the Castle has fine reproduction furniture and a charming adjacent room that may be used to sign the register. Ceremony can accommodate up to 60 guests. The gardens can be used pre- and post-ceremony. The venue does not provide catering."
Aberdour Castle is a public venue managed by Historic Scotland and it closes early in the evening. Couples should consider hiring a local hotel for the celebration. The Woodside Hotel is within walking distance and is a fantastic celebration venue for up to 100 people. Much of the Castle remains "ruined", no one lives there, so it has a certain medieval feel to it and, in the Long Gallery, there is a sense of the innocence and hope for the future when its set up for a wedding. Outside, its gardens are extensive and even with 100 people it can look sparse. The lawns are great for a champagne celebration with canapés and, if its a nice summers day, its one of the best venues in Scotland.
Pros: Easy to reach from the M90/Forth Road Bridge; picturesque venue; "ruined" castle look; medieval and other-worldly feel; large gardens and lawns; good for ceremony and immediate post-ceremony celebrations; good photography venue.
Cons: A public venue, opens and closes at set hours; can't be used as an all-day venue; no on-site catering.
