"The romance of Prestonfield is beyond compare. Imagine your wedding in this romantic historic house with everything needed to make your day unique, a breathtaking setting, just moments from the centre of Edinburgh and totally secluded. Prestonfield is Scotland's ultimate romantic wedding venue. With acres of lush camera-ready parkland surrounding Scotland's most glamorous and romantic hotel, where could be better for your most special day? Visit and you will understand why Prestonfield has been named the Most Romantic Hotel in Scotland and Hotel of the Year (2010). With Highland cattle and peacocks roaming the grounds, it's hard to imagine that Prestonfield is just minutes from the centre of Edinburgh."  The Observer.

Brian's View:

Prestonfield is one of Edinburgh's hidden treasures; you'll not stumble upon it easily. It is both a boutique hotel and a boudoir hotel - small and fabulously opulent. Yet to call it small isn't accurate as its actually very spread out in grounds and many of the rooms are large. In fact the scale of the hotel; in decor and in acres is what makes it so breathtaking; its only a couple of miles from Prince Street, has Arthur's Seat as a backdrop and rolling gardens too so you're immediately assaulted by waves of wonder.

All the porters are dressed in kilts, the girls in elegant dresses and the service is what you'd expect, but rarely get. As a venue, it sits nicely in the 40 - 100 plus guests. As well as the hotel itself there is a separate Circular Stables and plenty of room on the lawns for marquees. The food is top class and there is an award-winning restaurant, Rhubarb, that caters for up to 50 guests. As a photography venue, outside offers a good range of locations - if its not raining! Inside is luscious and the lighting is suitably dim and romantic which means using flash to get an image you can use. Space inside is at a premium which makes strobe placement challenging and of course, its a hotel so its a public space with no exclusive use.

Pros: High-quality hotel; a great venue for a mid-sized wedding; good food; excellent service; overnight accommodation available; extensive grounds and gardens; very intimate; 10 minute drive from Princes Street; good photography locations outside for groups and intimate shots.

Cons: Expensive; photography inside needs careful lighting.
